GOOD causes in Peeblesshire are set to benefit from £2,800 – thanks to the annual fireworks display.

The annual event is run by members of the Peebles and District Round Table.

And this year’s has been hailed the “best ever” by organisers, who were supported by Stobo Castle Health Spa.

Chris Hilton, chairman of the Round Table told us: “It was a fantastic event.

“There was a great turn out and the lights in the trees helped to create an exciting atmosphere.

“The fireworks were truly amazing.”

The pyrotechnic display was launched by this year’s Beltane Queen, Katy Blackwood – who was given the honour of pressing the big red button.

And the Guy, which was thrown onto the bonfire was created by pupils from Halyrude Primary School.

Chris added: “The Peebles and District Round Table members put in a lot of hard work to make the event what it was.

“We are grateful to the public for following the marshals’ instructions on the day, the St Andrew’s Ambulance for attending and all of the community support, which helps make the event happen.

“The group would also like to thank 21CC for the fantastic fireworks and the fire brigade for ensuring the site was safe at the end of the evening.

“The Round Table of Peebles is also very grateful for the generosity of Stobo, who helped make this event a success.

“As a result, all of the money raised, which was £2,800, on the day can go directly to local good causes.”

Stobo told us: “Peebles fireworks is now widely acknowledged as one of the largest privately-funded displays in Scotland and the growing number of visitors to the town for the event has far-reaching benefits.

“Most importantly, all donations from the public collected on the evening go directly to local charities.”
