THE lady who made tea dancing one of the most popular activities in Dundonald for over quarter of a century has been remembered by long time dance enthusiasts.

Jessie Reilly started the Tea Dance Group in Dundonald Institute in 1992 and it was something which reached far beyond the village itself.

Recalled Ruby Reekie, one of the members who spent many a Monday afternoon dancing away: "Jessie enjoyed dancing and decided to start the group in 1992 and it quickly grew in numbers until it reached a peak of 70.

"But from time to time that total was increased by residents at local care homes and also one in Kirkcaldy."

Added Ruby: "Jessie passed away last year and we decided to keep the group going but bit by bit our numbers have fallen and as we are now in single figures we decided that last Monday would be our last session.

"Before it we placed a plaque on the wall remembering Jessie for she did brilliantly at running the group.

"She never missed someone's birthday and always would be busy before the dance session baking to ensure it was a great day for the person."

The group signed off on Monday night with a meal at Lochgelly Golf Club to remember Jessie.
