SEVERAL churches in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area are taking part in the Battle's Over commemorations being held this Sunday.

St. Serf’s Parish Church in Lochgelly and Benarty are involved.

The Remembrance Day Events will take the form of 9.45am – Morning Worship in Benarty 10.45am – Service at the War Memorial in Lochgelly; 11.30am – Morning Worship in Lochgelly. Later on 3.00pm – Service at the War Memorial.

In both Lochgelly and Benarty 6.55pm – Gather outside, 7.05pm – Bells ‘Ring out for Peace’ 7.10pm – Inside : Tribute to the Millions Prayer and Hymn Reading of ‘Remember’ 7.25pm – Closing and Refreshments.

Kelty Church is playing its part in the international commemoration marking 100 years since the guns fell silent in the First World War.

Battle’s Over takes place on Remembrance Day, November 11, with events throughout the UK and abroad.

It begins at 6am with lone pipers playing Battle’s O’er, a traditional Scottish air after a battle, then at 6.55pm the Last Post is to be played.

Then at 7.05pm the church bells will be rung as part of ‘Ringing Out For Peace’.

Rev Hugh Steele, Minister of Kelty Kirk said: “We are proud to be playing a part in this historic international event to commemorate the centenary of the end of the Great War and to recognise the contribution and sacrifice made by men and women from our own community.”
