A YOUNG woman punched a PC in Lochgelly who was trying to detain her boyfriend.

Emma Healy, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time, quickly apologised to the officer after the assault.

The incident occurred when the police were called to a property. Certain people were removed from the area and officers then went back to the premises to see if anyone else was there.

Ten minutes later they came across an incident between two males, one of which was Healy's partner.

When police took hold of them, Healy ran over and punched one of the PC's.

Healy, 20, of Fraser Avenue, previously admitted that on October 28, 2017, at Stationhead Road, Lochgelly, she did assault a police constable then in the execution of his duty and did punch his head.

Defence solicitor, Barbara Collie, said: "She is a first-time offender and was under the influence of alcohol when the offence was committed.

"She accepts that she shouldn't have got involved.

"The man is now her ex-partner and she apologised to the police officer.

"This was out of character and she has reduced her alcohol consumption since the incident."

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: "Police officers have a job to do.

"It's seen as a difficult job, but they are entitled to the protection of the Court.

"Assaulting a police officer is serious and they are entitled to go about their business without being interfered with."

The Sheriff imposed a community sentence of 110 hours of unpaid work.
