CURRENT member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for Cowdenbeath, Bailey-Lee Robb, is hoping to be re-elected to his position in the 2019 Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) elections.

Having been first elected to SYP in 2017, Bailey-Lee has announced his bid for a second term, to continue to serve the young people of our area.

Since being elected, Bailey-Lee has wasted no time in getting down to work to achieve the best for young people of this area, with regular columns in our ‘Politician’s Opinion’ piece explaining what he has been involved in.

Throughout his time as an MSYP, Bailey-Lee has campaigned tirelessly on issues surrounding education, transport, Young People’s rights and Brexit.

Having been the first young person in Fife to be co-opted on to the Education and Children’s Services Committee, he hasn’t shied away from the hot topics like the catchment review in Dunfermline & West Fife, Attainment data and put up an opposition to officers trying to take away free bus passes for young people.

He has also led on Lochgelly High School’s – Pupil Improvement Committee, which welcomes in its third year, and with a brand new membership and leadership team, continues to lead it in the right direction.

It is no surprise this Committee has made a lot of changes for the better, for the young people of LHS.

Bailey-Lee has went on to be elected the Convener of the External Affairs, UK and International Relations Committee at the Parliament in 2018, getting down to work on issues such as Brexit, UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Local Governance Review. He has also took a national lead on the SYP’s new national campaign around public transport — “All Aboard”, taking up the role of theme lead for ‘Reducing Fares’.

It is no surprise that he has put his hat in the ring for a second term, to continue his work in achieving the best he can for the young people of the constituency. Bailey-Lee will set out his manifesto in the New Year, with this being directly influenced by the young people themselves!

Bailey-Lee said this week: “I hope the young people of this area, decide to put their trust in me yet again, and re-elect me to my position as their MSYP. "I believe I have shown, that I am a champion for young people in this area, by regularly standing up for each and everyone of them through various meetings, functions and work that goes on behind the scenes”
