Defence solicitor, Iain McCafferty, said his client complied with the search entered pleas at an early stage.

"He is someone that has offended previously and there has been misuse of drugs going back to 2010/11," Mr McCafferty said.

"He has been out of trouble since 2013. He effectively let his own drug problems escalate to the point that they are now affecting his family situation.

"He is someone that has reached the conclusion that he needs help."

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order of 180 hours of unpaid work. He will also undertake supervision with drug counselling for 12 months as a direct alternative to a custodial sentence.
