THE enthusiasts that work hard to make Cowdenbeath look good every spring and summer have been given a massive boost.

There was great news for the town and the local Environmental Group when Beautiful Fife announced how the town had been given silver guilt status.

One of the Cowdenbeath Environment Group members said: "Having received a silver gilt award for this year's participation in the Beautiful Fife awards, this is a step up from last year".

Group members are pictured at the Millennium Garden display after being told of the the recent award.

The Millennium Garden, in Perth Road and the Community Woodland, that runs from Broad Street towards Crossgates, are two of the features that the Environment Group look after along with the work involved in ensuring the planters on High Street look good.

But the volunteers are generous with their gratitude towards everyone who helps them.

Added the member: "We would like to take the opportunity to thank parks and green spaces for all their help throughout the last year.

"And also to all the volunteers that assisted over the last 12 months. Indeed, we even had junior volunteers this year.

"Without their help, and they know who they are, we would never have achieved this award . "Hanging baskets, planters on High Street, the Millenium Garden, the Community Woodland are just some of the areas that the group look after.

"In the spring we also did litter picking throughout the local countryside. "We are a small group and any assistance would be great. Interested parties can call 01383 515408". The Silver guilt award can be seen on display in the window of local business Lindsay Noble Butchers, on High Street .
