THE man who is heading the independent review into the impact of policing during the miners strike is desperate for former miners in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area to get involved in the review.

And he hopes that people will go along to the event being organised for November at Lochgelly Centre.

John Scott QC Solicitor Advocate, has been asked by the Scottish Government to conduct an independent review into the impact of policing on affected communities in Scotland during the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike.

He will be assisted by an Advisory Panel whose members are Cowdnebeath man and former MP and MSP Dennis Canavan; former Assistant Chief Constable Kate Thomson; and Professor Jim Murdoch of Glasgow University.

Said Louise Hester, Secretariat to the Independent Review: "The review group is keen to gather as much evidence as possible on the effects, including any continuing effects on communities, of the policing of the 1984/85 Miners Strike and issued a Call for Evidence – see https://beta.gov.scot/publications/policing-during-miners-strike-consultation-paper/ .

"In addition to the Call for Evidence we have also arranged some engagement events in or near mining communities – see https://beta.gov.scot/groups/independent-review-policing-miners-strike/ . and are coming to the Lochgelly Centre on November 20."

Mr Scott wants to get as much information as possible and wants people who were involved to go along to the Lochgelly Centre that day.
