A WEST Fife haulage company has warned drivers to slow down after safety fears were raised by Crossgates residents.
Concerns over the speed which Grant Construction lorries were travelling through the village were raised at a recent meeting of Crossgates Community council.
Secretary Liz Wheatley wrote to the company after fears that a tragedy could occur if it continued.
“What came up at the meeting was the lorries were travelling through the village at what appeared to be very fast speeds,” she explained. “They were coming in to Crossgates from Mossgreen and were travelling out of the village down at the Inverkeithing Road end.
“They appeared to be driving very quickly and it was noted that the loads weren’t covered either.”
Grant Construction manager Robert Ryan said he had now been in contact with Crossgates Community Council to tell them what they have done in their efforts to stamp out the problem.
“All our drivers have been spoken to,” he added. “We regard this as very serious, especially because of the size of the trucks. All drivers have been spoken to and have been told to watch what they are doing.”
