A CARDENDEN man caught behind the wheel nearly four times over the limit has been banned from driving for 40 months.

Gary Stewart, 51, of Carden Avenue, admitted driving on August 4, at Carden Avenue, after consuming alcohol where the proportion of it was 82 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Rebecca Clark said numerous members of the public contacted police to report he was drinking and driving. Officers stopped him and smelled alcohol.

Solicitor Gwen Haggerty said her client had various medical difficulties and resorted to alcohol as a coping mechanism.

Sheriff Linda Smith said the reading was “particularly high” and his second drink driving conviction.

She placed him on a community payback order with supervision for 18 months and banned him from driving for 40 months, backdated to August 29.
