STRICTLY fever arrived at Cardenden Primary School recently as two of their pupils get set to keep dancing all the way to a national charity event.

Jacob Hendricks, who is in P7, and P5 pupil Kayden Byers are set to take part in Strictly Kids – in aid of the STV Children’s Appeal – in November after successfully auditioning for the event.

Held annually by BlueStar Productions, Strictly Kids allows youngsters from across the country to audition for a place in the final, which will be held in Glasgow and see them coupled up and trained in Latin and ballroom dancing.

A total of 46 children have been selected for the final event, where they will learn their routines, choose costumes and be treated to VIP treatment.

They will then take to the dancefloor in front of an audience of 500 people and a panel of guest judges.

In addition, the show will raise money for STV’s Children’s Appeal, which is committed to helping children and young people affected by poverty.

At Cardenden Primary last week, Jacob and Kayden’s schoolmates came together for a morning of dancing and fundraising ahead of their big finale.

BlueStar Productions instructor, Tracy Donald, visited the school on September 14 to hold workshops with all pupils as the school’s gym hall was turned into a temporary ballroom.

Donna Shiels, the school’s depute headteacher, said: “We managed to get everyone from the nursery up to primary seven taking part, and the whole school was a buzz.

“The priority was to support the STV charity, and to show how fantastically well the boys have done, and it’s great for the two boys to get that recognition.

"Some of the kids were going up to them afterwards and saying ‘Can I get your autograph?’, which I think they enjoyed!

“There was such a positive atmosphere and everyone in the school, including all the staff, came together.

"We’re keen to boost the image of the school and show that we have such great children here. We’re so proud of them, especially at the ages that they are, for them to be so dedicated to it.”

The Strictly Kids event will be held on November 25 at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, and Cardenden Primary will hold a dress down day on November 23, where Jacob and Kayden are set to perform at a special assembly.
