A PAINTER and decorator who was found standing in the middle of a Lochgelly road with a knife in his hand said he had no recollection of the incident.

At 4.26pm on August 5, police received several calls about a man standing in the road appearing to be under the influence.

Officers found James Johnman on a footpath on Station Road and when he got out the car he was holding a knife and a bottle of Buckfast.

When police asked who the knife belonged to he told he said he was holding it for his protection.

One officer then got hold of his wrist to arrest him but he started struggling with him violently.

Johnman 28, of Francis Street, Lochgelly, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing.

He previously admitted August 5 at Station Road, he did without reasonable or lawful authority, have with him an article which had a blade or was sharply pointed, namely a knife.

And, did resist, obstruct or hinder police officers then in the execution of their duty and did struggle violently and kick out their legs.

Defence solicitor, Alexander Flett, said: "He does not have a great recollection of dealing with the police.

"He is a painter and decorator by trade and he had gone to a friend's house to assist.

"Both of them had consumed alcohol and drugs and that is about as much as he can recollect.

"He is trying to get himself back on the straight and narrow and has also got in touch with his children.

"He recognises it is a serious matter and it will cause the Court concern."

Sheriff Christopher Shead told Johnman that it was an "extraordinary state" he got himself to and imposed a sentence of 200 hours of unpaid work.
