CENTRAL Fife Crime Prevention Panel is to ensure that Lochgelly does not miss out on measures to help traffic safety around schools.

At Wednesday's meeting the Panel decided to spend several hundred pounds on a new set of three Pop Up Kids signs which spread the road safety message.

The meeting heard that the signs used in Cardenden and Benarty had already made a difference in making drivers think about parking around schools and speeds used when driving past them.

However, so far Lochgelly schools had not had the opportunity to use them and vice-chair Dave Roy said: "The South, St Patrick's and the West are on busy roads so it would make sense for them to have access to the Pop Up Kids signs to help make drivers think safety when they go past the schools.

"Also the parking issues are as grave in Lochgelly as elsewhere in the area."

The members backed the suggestion that the Panel buy three Pop Up signs to be used by the three schools.
