KELTY'S first community cafe opened yesterday (Tuesday) and Oor Wee Cafe looks certain to be a huge success.

Based in the village community centre the cafe will be open every Tuesday from 12 to 2pm.

One of the volunteers who has played a role in establishing the initiative, Jackie Cooper, said that the special day held last Tuesday to allow sponsors a chance to see Oor Wee Cafe in action went very well:"The idea is that it is a wholly inclusive facility for everyone in the community and we would dearly like to see isolated people get the chance to attend on Tuesdays.

"It is fully accessible to ensure any disabled person can attend and we also have people ready to go and pick people up and assure that they can get to Oor Wee Cafe on a Tuesday.

"The event held last week went better than we had hoped and we had over 40 people in to try out what is on offer and the feedback was very encouraging."

Also last Tuesday Kelty Community Council members were there to make a donation of £360 to Oor Wee Cafe.

Added Jackie: "We cannot thank the community council enough for their support.

"The backing we have had from the business community of Kelty has been excellent and we are so grateful for it and we want now to enjoy our days helping people have a nice relaxing break in Oor Wee Cafe."

A few more volunteers appeared last Tuesday to boost the numbers but Jackie said that more would be welcomed. Just call 0744 9474 755 if you would like to help or need picked up to attend the cafe on Tuesdays.

The lunch available is on a donation only basis.
