A COWDENBEATH man tried to kick a policeman during a night out at a Lochgelly bar.

Doormen grabbed Thomas McDonald to stop the blow from landing, Dunfermline Sheriff Court head.

McDonald, 27, of Broad Street, admitted that on June 1, at Bank Street, Lochgelly, he assaulted a police officer by attempting to kick him on the head.

Depute fiscal Jamie Hilland said a police officer was attempting to arrest another man when McDonald stepped forward and tried to kick him.

“The door staff saw this and held him back to prevent the kick from landing,” added the depute.

McDonald was not arrested immediately but was spotted a short time afterwards by officers in an unmarked police vehicle.

When arrested, he shouted: “I want to kick your head.”

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff said: “A lot of alcohol was consumed. There was a scuffle and he became involved. CCTV shows he was held back from intervening.

“He appreciates this is a serious matter.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and McDonald will be sentenced on September 26.

His brother, Derek McDonald, was previously sentenced to a community payback order with 160 hours of unpaid work for his part in the incident. This involved him pulling down his trousers and underwear outside the bar, then struggling with police and making racist remarks.
