WALLSGREEN Park is no place for youth groups to settle differences.

The Cardenden leisure facility was the scene of a disturbance when youngsters arrived from different communities two Friday nights ago and a situation developed which saw a police team arrive to speak with the young people.

However, the chairman of Cardenden Community Council underlined this week that with its playpark and John Thomson Park football facility, Wallsgreen was a place for people to have fun and enjoy themselves.

Said Dave Roy: "There had been one or two problems earlier in the year but this situation a couple of weeks ago was something that seemed to be arranged through social media.

"However, the police team was quickly on the scene and the matter swiftly dealt with.

"It would seem that the youngsters were coming from places like Kirkcaldy and some villages but this is not what Wallsgreen Park is for.

"We have some lovely facilities there to be used and there are hopes that we might even get a Multi Use Games Area in the near future, so it is a place to be enjoyed."

Dave added that a Domhawk surveillance camera was currently in use at the park as a deterrent to any misbehaviour.

Local councillor, Rosemary Liewald, vice chair of Cowdenbeath Area Committee, agreed and added: "There was an altercation involving a group of youths and from speaking to the officers who attended it seems that other youths from the Kirkcaldy area had decided to come to Cardenden to settle a dispute.

"I acknowledge that continuing work must take place to ensure that our young adults have a good dialogue with our local residents, community youth staff and local police.

"Great strides have been made in improving this relationship, however, sadly there is a few who wish to engage in antisocial behaviour and this is not something that can be tolerated".

Ms Liewald added: "Cardenden is a friendly community where everyone is welcome and we wish everyone who comes to visit, or who lives here, behave in an open, friendly and sociable manner. We sincerely hope that this kind of incident is not repeated".

Dave Roy also hopes that the presence of the surveillance equipment will also deter careless dog owners from failing to clean up after their animals while walking their pets at Wallsgreen Park.
