IT is a year since Crossgates lost one of its strongest community stalwarts, Robert Arnott.

Robert was chairman of the village community council for many years and championed many Crossgates causes including the Community purchase of the Taft beauty spot.

The Premier Shop in Crossgates made £172 through a raffle held in memory of Robert.

Said Robert's wife Elizabeth: "It was the first year anniversary of his death on July 7, which was the same day as Crossgates Gala, something which he was once a big part of.

"It was good of Robert, from Premier Shops, to run the raffle and the support from the public was tremendous.

"I bought two planters with Acers in them, one for each side of the bench that was donated last year by John Reid.

"My grand-daughter Ileana enjoyed being with me when I collected the money raised and was delighted to try the lovely scene out".
