A COWDENBEATH teenager has been banned from driving after hitting 110mph on the A92.

MacAuley Kenney, 19, of Sinclair Drive, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for an offence committed around 18 months ago.

He admitted that on October 8, 2016, on the A92 between the Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath junctions, he drove a car at a speed of 110 mph, on a road subject to a 70mph limit.

Depute fiscal Claire Kennedy said the offence occurred at around 9.45pm.

Kenney, a student, was seen speeding by a police patrol car and was followed for 600 metres before he was stopped.

Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon said his client had passed his driving test in March 2016 and this offence occurred just over six months later.

“He was going to pick up his girlfriend and simply wasn’t thinking about his speed,” he added.

Mr Sneddon said his client had received three penalty points for another speeding offence since then.

Sheriff Derek Reekie said: “I’ve got to think of the interests of the public. This was completely unacceptable and highly dangerous.

“Driving at 110mph on any road is an outrageous speed to be doing. You’re perhaps fortunate not to be facing a more serious charge. The police were following you and initially you didn’t notice that.

“Subsequent to this, you got a fixed penalty for speeding in a 30mph limit so you hadn’t learned your lesson.”

The sheriff imposed a nine-month disqualification and a fine of £750.
