A MEETING is to be held on Friday to discuss monitoring of the operation of the Fife Ethylene Plant and has been organised by MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, Lesley Laird.

The meeting, to be held at Ms Laird's offices in Kirkcaldy, is expected to involve SEPA, Fife Council and the Mossmorran Independent Monitoring Committee.

On the agenda will be whether there are any improvements that could be made to the working of the committee and to the way the plant operators, Exxon/Mobil, communicate with the communities surrounding the plant.

There are no other politicians expected to be involved which has annoyed Green MSP Mark Ruskell, who has been closely following the Mossmorran story since last summer's fortnight of flaring following a breakdown.

Meanwhile the Mossmorran Action Group has indicated it will not be taking up the invitation to attend the meeting as it sees it as a 'meeting behind closed doors'.

MP Lesley Laird said: "The issues raised in connection with Mossmorran will require short, medium and long term support not least of which may be brought through legislative changes.

"It is our intention to organise further meetings which will include full cross party representation."
