YOU'VE heard of a Kinder Surprise, but what about a Kindle surprise?

Budding bookworms at Lumphinnans Primary Community School sure have as Christmas came early.

They can now enjoy their favourite books on 25 brand new Kindle Fire devices after Amazon Dunfermline made a shock visit to the school.

The donation is part of Amazon's local community support programme.

Festive joy didn't stop there as during a special assembly, the school also received a £2,000 gift card to purchase e-books.

Carly Schiavone is a member of the Amazon team from Dunfermline that nominated the school for support.

Her niece, Myla, 6, attends the school and was delighted with the donations.

She said: "I love going to the library and reading on a Kindle will make it even more fun. I am really happy that we will be downloading new books in class and all of my friends are excited too!"

Carly added: "Lumphinnans Primary Community School does a great job increasing the literary skills of our young people and this donation will help even more local kids to enjoy books of all genres. It’s great that the team at Amazon in Dunfermline is able to provide this support to Lumphinnans Primary Community School and I know that the donation will be really welcomed by everyone at the school."

Deborah Davidson, headteacher, said: "It’s our mission to encourage pupils to read – not only for the educational benefits, but also in the context of feeding their imaginations and creativity. The gift card and Kindle devices will be a really valuable resource at our school and we’re over the moon to receive such great support from the local Amazon team."

The initiative is part of the ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme whereby the company supports communities in and around where it operates in the UK.

Paul Ashraf, General Manager at Amazon in Dunfermline, said: "The staff at Lumphinnans Primary Community School do a fantastic job in encouraging more reading among the young people in our community and we hope this donation helps the pupils experience new books while enjoying some old classics. The joy of reading is something we’re incredibly passionate about at Amazon and we’re keen to help local children broaden their literary horizons with this donation."
