A COWDENBEATH couple's chance discovery of a memorial to a family pet has seen them transform the overgrown scene into something that will touch the hearts of dog lovers.

Moira Campbell, and partner William Robertson, had been out for a drive when she came across the memorial by virtually tripping on a wooden peg.

The pair cleared the undergrowth away and came upon a plaque bearing the following message: 'In fondest memory of Danny a best friend and companion October 20 1994'.

The image on the stone plaque looked like a West Highland Terrier, said Moira, and along with William she started to clear the site and bring the memorial back to its best.

Said Moira: "The wee memorial was created 23 years ago so it is possible that Danny's owners have now passed on or maybe they are still living in the area.

"It would be good if we could get in touch with them to tell them that we have found it and have restored it as well as we can, so that wee Danny will not be forgotten."

The memorial is on the Yellowscott Park road before the Knockhill turn-off and Moira pointed out that it was by sheer chance that William and herself came upon it.

She added: "We often go out for a drive an recently we turned onto the Yellowscott and stopped to feed some horses.

"I was scrambling over the rough grass verge when I stood on what felt like a wooden stake. Bit by bit we got rid of the heavy undergrowth and uncovered this lovely little memorial.

"It really was quite touching and we would love to get in touch with Danny's owners or relatives of them.

"We intend looking after the memorial and would love to send photographs to them of how it looks now."

It will be 23 years next week since death of Danny and Moira would welcome a call on 07854884758 or on her Facebook page.
