A MOSSMORRAN-based gas supplier has been told to improve its safety by the Health and Safety Executive.
AvantiGas was given the warning after concerns were raised over procedures at an LPG storage vessel.
The HSE issued the improvement notice for a “failure to demonstrate” that all measures necessary had been taken to prevent a major accident and limit the consequences for human health.
It said it had not been demonstrated that instrumented safety systems were being adequately managed at a loading bay at its Mossmorran Road Depot.
A spokesperson for AvantiGas said they, and predecessor Shell, had an “exemplary, industry-leading” safety record at Mossmorran.
“We have operated the site for 25 years without any major accident,” said the spokesperson.
The firm said they would make any necessary upgrade as soon as possible. The spokesperson added that the improvement notice did not mean that the HSE has found anything that could be identified as dangerous practice as, if this had happened, a Prohibition Notice would have been issued.
