WHAT has been described as a blot on the landscape at the north end of Lochgelly is set to go after a planning application was submitted to Fife Council.
The issue of the water tower was raised in the early spring of 2016 following a petition by a local environment group, signed by 200 people, was received by Cowdenbeath Area Committee, calling on the council to address the problem of the derelict tower north of McGregor Avenue.
The young members of the environment group felt that the structure was a blight on the town and a play area attraction to children and a possible accident waiting to happen.
Councillor Mark Hood said then: "The water tower has been an ongoing problem for a number of years and has steadily got worse and worse".
The had to intervene and board up the building to make it safe.
However, a plan lodged by Mr R McPherson for erection of dwellinghouse with the demolition of the existing water tower could see the issue resolved.
