STEVENSON Funeral Directors in Cardenden, are collecting Christmas parcels for troops serving abroad.

Over the last few weeks, members of the community have been donating items for morale boosting care packages being sent to troops serving overseas, as so many serving personnel will spend the festive season away from home and again.

Thanks to their generosity, the Support Our Soldiers organisation is on target to meet the quota of Christmas parcels approved by the MOD.

The closing date for parcels being dropped off at local Stevenson Funeral Directors in Cardenden's Station Road is Friday November 4 and anyone having problems may email stirling@supportoursoldiers.org.uk or call 07871612164 and leave a message. These calls will be replied to and an uplift will be arranged at that time.

Regional Co-ordinator for the charity Support Our Soldiers, Lynn O’Brien Said: “People have been so generous over the last year and more so leading up to Christmas.

"The response has been tremendous and I thank everyone on behalf of those serving their country. I receive many letters from serving personnel expressing their amazement at the support they receive and how they enjoy receiving our parcels; they especially like to receive the letters of support which shows that people do appreciate the work they are doing, often in appalling conditions”.

The Support Our Soldiers charity was founded in 2003 by a group of service families/friends/supporters who came together with the sole aim to provide support for our serving men and women and their families at home; doing everything from sending morale boosting care packages and helping those with injuries to raising welfare issues and providing much needed support and guidance to family members.
