HAVING a very happy family is the Muller recipe for a long marriage.

The Hill of Beath couple celebrate their golden wedding on Saturday July 2 and they are marking their 50 years together with a family holiday in Benidorm.

Fred (69) and Nancy (66), have, two sons, a daughter, two foster daughters and six grandchildren and a total of 18 are in Spain celebrating their anniversary.

They said: "We have no secret really for a long marriage other than having a happy family.

"Seeing them grow up and do well is a really nice thing to see and enjoy."

Nancy is Hill of Beath born and bred and worked at the Todd and Duncan Mill in Kinross and latterly became a home help and also a school escort.

She loves the outdoors and taking the grandchildren to the park.

Fred served his time as a baker at Kelty Co-op and then spent many years working with Scottish Gas before taking redundancy in 1999 and worked for 14 years with Hermes delivering parcels in the Cowdenbeath area and with that he met a great many people. He retired in 2013.

Football has been his hobby all his days and along with John Strain established the Hill of Beath Swifts boys football team which produced players such as Dunfermline Athletic captain Craig Robertson, Pars and Cowden striker Willie Callaghan; and Cowdenbeath full-back Dickie Baillie along with Hill of Beath Hawthorn defender John Mitchell who won the Scottish Junior Cup with Haws.

The Swifts were a highly successful team and won the Scottish Juvenile Under 14 Cup in 1981.

He has been a Pars supporter all his life and is currently a season ticket holder.

Fred and Nancy, from Allan Park, are looking forward to their celebration in Spain.
