COWDENBEATH MSP, Annabelle Ewing MSP, has welcomed news that two groups in her constituency have successfully applied to Awards for All Scotland, securing a total of £10,279 worth of funding.

One of them sees canoeing coaching take place at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

Ms Ewing said: “The Fife Canoeing Activities Group has received a £2,778 Awards for All Scotland grant from SportScotland, which they will use for a transport trailer, and Rosyth Community Council has been awarded a £7,500 Awards for All Scotland grant from Big Lottery Fund which they will use for a children’s gala to celebrate the town’s centenary of being a garden city.

“These Awards for All Scotland grants are helping to fund projects for many groups and organisations in communities across the country and I am delighted to see some of that support coming to my constituency."

She added: “Many congratulations to all those who have contributed to securing these grants and while I cannot promise to get in a kayak, I wish everyone associated with both the Fife Canoeing Activities Group every success and I commend the hard work of everyone involved in staging the Children’s Gala.”

In July and August FCAG move to Lochore Meadows on Tuesday evenings. Training sessions are also run at the park loch at other times.

If you want to learn to paddle, develop your skills, or just get out there on the water, FCAG will have something for you. The club was established in 1974 and has been growing ever since.

It is an active, friendly club and is open to anyone who wishes to participate in paddle sport.

The club has interests in placid water kayaking, sea kayaking, canoe polo, open boating and white-water kayaking.

They have a good skill-training programme, encouraging all to participate in the BCU star tests and BCU coaching scheme. The club runs regular coached sea and river trips, evening pool sessions during the winter, and loch sessions in the summer on Tuesday evenings at the Meadows.
