IT was a ruff day for a Cowdenbeath Scout leader after police put the bite on him at a special event.
The nervous volunteer got to know dogs Nevis and Jade as the 46th Fife Scout Group were visited by Cowdenbeath community ward officer Fiona Menzies and dog handler PC Stevie Randall. Police Scotland’s specialist dog section is based in the Kingdom and PC Menzies said, “The Scouts and Beavers, along with their pack leaders, certainly enjoyed the input and were able to observe PC Randall demonstrate his explosive dog Jade and general purpose police dog, Nevis, searching, carrying out a stand-off with a suspect and take control of a suspect (both suspects being PC Randall).
“One of the Scout leaders also decided to take a bite, using a bite sleeve, from Nevis and certainly decided he didn’t want to meet Nevis in a professional capacity any time soon!” The kids found out just how useful the dogs can be to the police in catching the bad guys and PC Menzies added, “I am glad to have had the opportunity to speak to the 46th Fife Scout group, with PC Randall, about the dog section and also provide a general input about what my job is as a police officer.”
