A COWDENBEATH business was hit by a blaze which occurred on Thursday evening.

The fire caused disruption to traffic on High Street with the main thoroughfare through the town closed for a considerable time.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Operation Control received a call at 7.26pm on Thursday to a building fire in High Street, Cowdenbeath, at Tan Express.

Crews from Lochgelly, Dunfermline, Burntisland and Kirkcaldy were mobilised to the incident and on arrival discovered a well-developed fire in the ground floor of a two storey building measuring 20m x 20m.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were committed to the fire and extinguished it with use of a hose reel jet.

Staff, acting purposefully, managed to help get everyone out of the salon before the firefighters arrived and no one was hurt. Crews then gained access to the first floor to ventilate the property and used the aerial ladder platform to create a vent in the roof.

Firefighters were on the scene for some considerable time dampening down hot spots.

No one was hurt in the incident which was thought to be caused by an electrical fault in a sun bed. The salon, however, suffered considerable damage in the incident and has been put out of action. Picture by David Wardle.
