YOUNG footballers from Cardenden and Kinglassie had a day to remember when they had the chance to take in the Celtic v Ross County Premiership fixture.
The youngsters had taken part in the 2013 John Thomson Memorial football tournament for primary school pupils run at Moorside Park, Dundonald, and the visit to the ground where the famous Cardenden goalkeeper, who died from injuries sustained in a match against Rangers in 1931, made his name, is a traditional part of the link between the Memorial Committee and Celtic FC.
The Glasgow based KANO Foundation had kindly invited the children to be their guests at the Ross County match and they were accompanied by Memorial Committee members plus team coaches.
The first port of call on the big day was a meal at McDonalds, in Glasgow, before heading for Celtic Park where the Cardenden and Kinglassie group were met by members of the KANO Foundation.
All the youngsters were presented with a goodie bag from the Foundation and there was the added bonus of a £2 voucher each, to spend at the game.
The Memorial Committee would like to forward their sincere thanks to the KANO Charitable Foundation for making the children’s visit a day they will treasure.
Said Memorial Committee chair, Alex Burns, “This has become a welcome feature of the Thomson programme and all the young people had a great time.” Mr Burns continued by thanking both the Corrie Centre and Bowhill Centre management committees for their financial support which was greatly appreciated. The match itself saw Celtic and County draw 1-1.
