A READING of the play being devised by Matthew Knights to capture the impact that the remarkable Lochgelly woman who was elected to Parliament before she was allowed to vote, takes place next week.

Lochgelly Centre will be the stage for the hearing on Thursday March 5.

Jennie Lee was born in Lochgelly in 1904 and became the youngest ever female MP for North Lanark in 1929, before going on to become the first ever Minister for The Arts and a founder of the Open University.

Knights Theatre presents a script-in-hand rehearsed reading of JENNIE LEE: TOMORROW IS A NEW DAY, a play by Matthew Knights which explores the personal and political life of this famous Lochgelly woman who taught in Cowdenbeath before becoming involved in the hurly burly world of politics.

As a real rookie she clashed with Winston Churchill in Parliament but more than held her own. Matthew hopes this reading will capture the ways that Jennie became such a real battler on the Commons floor.
