LOCHGELLY star, Donna Hazelton, who has performed in theatres all over the world, including playing Mama Morton in “Chicago” at the West End and the Mother Abbess in “Sound of Music” in Dubai, is returning to Fife to play the role of Norma Desmond in Limelight’s forthcoming production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, “Sunset Boulevard” this week at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline.

Donna, originally from Lochgelly, and who has been performing from a very young age, was a well known face in Fife’s local amateur theatre scene before finding fame as one of the winners of Channel 4’s “Musicality” show in 2004, a series looking for ordinary individuals to play a West

End role for one night only.

Winning the show changed Donna’s life, giving her the opportunity to perform all over the world. Based on the 1950 film by Billy Wilder, ‘Sunset Boulevard’ tells the story of Norma Desmond, a former star of silent movies now living as a recluse in her mansion and dreaming of returning

to the big screen and the showbiz world of Paramount Studios.

A chance meeting with struggling young screenwriter Joe Gillis leads to a mutually beneficial relationship allowing Norma an opportunity to finish her own movie script ‘Salome’ starring herself as the leading lady in a desperate bid to return to her former fame, while Joe harbouring his own ambitions of being a big shot screenwriter enjoys the lavish lifestyle that Norma’s wealth and status affords him.

After a break from amateur theatre of almost 16 years, Donna has returned to Limelight Productions to take on what she describes as “every actress’s dream role”.

In Donna’s own words: “The character of Norma is so tragic and complex that I knew it would be a challenge and push me to the limit of my ability and I truly wanted, no... needed to do it”.

She cannot wait to play this iconic character on stage and she appreciates the parallels that the story of Norma’s return to Paramount Studios has with her own life as in many ways she is also making a return, not only to amateur theatre but to Limelight Productions where she was the company’s first Honorary Member when the company was formed 15 years ago.

The show runs from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd February at 7:30pm including 2:30pm including the Saturday matinee at the Alhambra Theatre, Dunfermline. Tickets available from Limelight Box Office on 01383 738822 (no booking fee)
