For The Tiger Who Came To Tea

This is a musical play adapted and directed by DAVID WOOD, based on the book by JUDITH KERR and it is at Dunfermlinbe's Alhambra Theatre on Saturday May 4 at 2pm.

The doorbell rings just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. Who could it possibly be? What they certainly don’t expect to see at the door is a big, stripy tiger!

The Tiger Who Came to Tea is a short children's story, first published in 1968, written and illustrated by Judith Kerr.

The book concerns a girl called Sophie, her mother, and an anthropomorphised tiger who interrupts their afternoon tea.

The book remains extremely popular more than fifty years after it was first published, and a theatrical adaptation of the story has been produced.

A television adaptation of the book will air on Channel 4 in Christmas 2019.

Judith Kerr spent her early years in Berlin just before the start of the Third Reich and her father was on a death list because of his opposition to the Nazis. Michael Rosen, also a children's author, claims the tiger could be based on her memory of the past threat: something that could have disrupted her life as a young child and taken everything the family owned.
