LOCHGELLY promoters Rubber Stamp Promotions have booked the UK’s number 1 Simple Minds tribute band, Simple Minded, to headline their final gig of 2014 at Wee Jimmies, Cowdenbeath, on Saturday 27th December.

The band have recently played in Dubai, so don’t miss the chance to see them up close at this intimate venue. Local artist Daniel Lamond will be supporting Simple Minded at this one.

Doors open at 8pm and tickets can be purchased from Wee Jimmies Bar, or Ticketweb at a cost of £7. This gig is sure to be popular, so it’s advisable to buy tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

The nucleus of Simple Minded was formed by George Porter (vocals) in 2008. Shortly after, at a meeting with Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill of Simple Minds after a gig in Glasgow, the pair gave their blessing to what is now the UK’s premier Simple Minds tribute act.

George formed the band with Dave Kelly (guitar) and decided that the main feature of their sets should be the classic years from Life in a Day up to Once Upon a Time. They aimed to bring the raw energy of these formative years to the audience, delivering authenticity by adding classics such as Don’t You Forget About Me, Alive & Kicking and Belfast Child to the list.

Along the way the band has transformed into what is now their strongest line-up with the addition of Stuart Clyde (keyboards and backing vocals), Stevie Mason (Bass and backing vocals) and Paul Carnegie (drums). Latterly Simple Minded has developed a comprehensive set covering a broad spectrum of songs faithful to the SM sound, from the early classics such as The American, Love Song, Changeling and Chelsea Girl right up to current day Simple Minds anthems.

In recent years, Simple Minded has attracted genuine recognition from current and original members of Simple Minds. Derek Forbes, original Bass player in the band said “I listened to the band and was very impressed”.

Brian McGee, the original Minds drummer said “Simple Minded is the best tribute band I’ve seen” Former manager and SM guru, Bruce Findlay said, “They sound just like Simple Minds did twenty years ago”. Both Derek Forbes and Brian McGee have also joined Simple Minded on stage for impromptu guest appearances over the years.

The line-up of the band has never been stronger, nor has the excitement about performing the music been greater.

George, Dave, Stuart, Stevie and Paul are all gearing up to take their show around the UK and promise their audience a fabulous night of Simple Minds’ greatest music. The band have recently played in Dubai and European dates are planned for across Northern Europe.
