EVER caught yourself telling a pal to “hud yer wheest”? Or wondering aloud, “whaur’s yer baffies”?

Well don’t worry – you’re not alone, you’re just Fae Fife! In celebration of the Kingdom’s wide-ranging and rich vocabulary, Fife Cultural Trust has launched a worldwide competition to discover just how many people really wish they were Fae Fife!

The competition has been launched to mark a new range of Fae Fife merchandise, which includes mugs, jute bags and a bag for life.

The Fae Fife designs display pithy sayings heard only in Fife, which express the essence of the Kingdom. These fun – and useful – ways to display your heritage are available at Kirkcaldy Galleries and shops in FCT venues across Fife, as well as on FCT’s new online shop: www.onfife.com “We got the idea of building a wider range from the success of the jute bags, the first items to feature the Fae Fife design, said Loraine McIntosh, of Fife Cultural Trust.

“They were so popular as gifts to send abroad that we thought it would be great to expand the number of items available. Fife has such rich culture and vocabulary: everybody wants to be fae Fife, really!” To enter the competition, which offers a fantastic prize of a £50 gift voucher for Fife Cultural Trust merchandise, Fifers are invited to email a picture (taken outside Fife) of a Fae Fife mug, Jute bag or bag for life, with their choice of caption.

Locations for the photographs can be anywhere in the world; the farther the better. Captions should reflect the theme of spreading Fife culture across the world.

To start the competition off, FCT’s Bill Mair took some gifts to friends in Newcastle on a recent holiday visit.

Bill presented gifts from Fife to Councillor David Stockdale – Deputy Cabinet Member for Public Health, Culture, Leisure and Libraries at Newcastle City Council – and Mick Bowman of Northumberland County Council.

“Councillor Stockdale and Mick were delighted with the gifts but I suspect they’ll be squabbling over who gets the Fae Fife bag!”, said Bill.

It’s easy to enter - Fifers may email their photos and captions to bill.mair@onfife.com, share on the ON at Fife Facebook page, www.facebook.com/onfife, or use the hashtag #faefife on Instagram and Twitter.

“We’ll be displaying the entries in an online gallery, and a winner will be selected every three months, with the first deadline 12th January 2015”, added Bill.
