FROM Monday 24th November to Sunday 30th November the 3rd annual Book Week Scotland arrives in the Kingdom, and Fife Cultural Trust has announced another packed programme, with some fantastic events coming to libraries.

The programme caters for everybody, so there’s never been a better time to pick up a book and start reading!

There’s something of a foodie theme to this year’s Book Week, with Ann Cleeves (right), the bestselling author of the novels behind Vera and Shetland, joining readers for lunch at St Andrews Library.

Acclaimed Tartan Noir novelists Christopher Brookmyre and Caro Ramsay will be joining up for A Beer, A Book and A Burger at Kirkcaldy Galleries, and Death by Chocolate at Cowdenbeath Library links two of FCT’s favourite things – tastings of crime novels and chocolate! You might also want to take along a pie and a mug of Bovril along to Rothes Halls to hear Archie Macpherson, football commentator turned writer, regale with stories From Fiction to Football and back again.

Staff are also very excited by the appearance of wildlife film maker Doug Allan (centre) at Lochgelly Centre. You may not be too familiar with the name, but you’ll have almost certainly seen his work! Doug has contributed stunning footage to Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Life, and has worked closely throughout the years with David Attenborough. Behind the Lens is your chance to hear the equally incredible stories behind the footage. The Trust has also just confirmed an appearance by Quintin Jardine. Just a bit too late to make the programme, Quintin will be at Dalgety Bay Library on Thursday 27th November. As well as the adult events there’s a full schools programme during the week, with two teatime family events. Simon Bartram is at Methil Library and the ever popular Jonathan Meres, author of The World of Norm, comes to Burntisland Library. As well as screening of two of the classic children’s films inspired by his books – Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and James & the Giant Peach – Book Week ends with a fitting tribute to life and work of the great Roald Dahl. Kirkcaldy Galleries hosts an afternoon of laughter and imagination, with workshops, crazy crafts and fabulous face art in tribute to the master of storytelling!
