FRESH from appearing at the heart of Scottish politics, Joe Corrie’s play about a Fife mining community during the General Strike of 1926 comes to Lochgelly next Wednesday.

A ‘showcase’ production of ‘In Time o’ Strife’ – adapted, designed and directed by Graham McLaren – was performed in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament on Sunday.

Corrie, a Cardenden poet and playwright, wrote the classic play about a Fife mining community buckling under the strain of a seven month lock-out almost 90 years ago.

And it’s been revived by the National Theatre of Scotland to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the 1984 miners’ strike. Driven by live, gutsy, folk-punk songs and intense, full blooded choreography, the production is a stark reminder that class conflict between those at the bottom of the social heap and those in power is perennial.

The show is on at 7.30pm, Wednesday 27th August to Saturday 30th August, and there is also a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are priced from £8-12, call 01592 583303 to book.
