AFTER Saturday’s nightmare at Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath simply have to get their show back on the road when Albion Rovers come to Central Park this weekend.

Cowden lie bottom of SPFL League One after two games and that needs to be changed swiftly starting with a victory this Saturday.

There have been some strange results so far in this division but Cowdenbeath have to get their act together, a point stressed by manager Colin Nish.

The two results against Dunfermline have been disappointing, but clearly the Pars are going to be the clear front runners in the division this term.

Against Stranraer Cowden should have won, so this weekend they need to ensure their play gets the goals it merits.

Player/boss Nish apologised to the 250 travelling fans who were at Dunfermline for the performance and wants his team to get last Saturday’s drubbing out of their system by winning against Albion.

“Dunfermline are a very difficult team to tackle just now, especially at East End Park, and maybe we were a bit unlucky to have to play them twice in a space of three weeks, but we need to ensure we start picking up points regularly starting this weekend,” he said.

“We conceded too quickly at Dunfermline and it gave them a flying start and it was difficult for us to get a foothold in the game, although going forward we posed them more than a few problems.

“But our defending as a team was not good enough and to be honest we did not make them work hard enough for their goals and I can understand the fans being bitterly disappointed.” Albion Rovers started their programme well by beating Ayr United 3-0 but they were well beaten at Forfar last weekend and Cowdenbeath will be looking to make it back-to-back defeats for the Coatbridge men.

“It has been a tough start to the season, all in all, but this is a real test of character for us and we will have learned a lot through these experiences.

“We need to get a win under our belts and that will lift confidence. If we can beat Albion it will give us a lift and we can soon start to move up the table.” Midfielders Declan Hughes and Craig Johnston will be missing through suspension but the manager hopes to have skipper John Armstrong back in the side. If Armstrong (above) is fit it will bolster the rearguard but the midfield area is still one which is posing questions and a return for Lewis Milne would seem likely for this weekend.

The manager is still looking to add to his playing strength and may try to enlist at least another loan signing to add to Robbie Buchanan joining from Hearts, before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

“I have a few irons in the fire and hopefully we will get at least one player aboard soon,” he said.
