Falkirk 1, Cowdenbeath 0.

SPFL Championship Attendance-3220.

YET another goal conceded from a set piece cost Cowden dear at Westfield last night.

A single goal from a free-kick situation cost the Fifers all three points and puts the emphasis now on winning the two home games coming up against Dumbarton and Livingston.

Cowdenbeath had easily contained the promotion play-off chasing Bairns for most of the game but seconds from the break the hosts whipped in a cross from a free-kick and a header from home skipper David McCracken tied up the points.

It was the umpteenth time this season that Cowdenbeath had conceded a goal from a set piece.

Yet the game had started well for the Blues with young Craig Johnston working hard in the wide areas and he sent over a couple of good balls into the Falkirk box where Kudus Oyenuga just could not get to them.

Robbie Thomson had to be on the alert to stop a shot from John Baird, who had scored the key goal the week before, then the home striker hit the net only to be rightly ruled off-side.

The game seemed to be heading to a goalless interval when virtually on the whistle an Alex Cooper cross into the box from a free-kick caught out the Cowden cover and big McCRACKEN fied a header into the net.

The second period saw Cowdenbeath attack well at times with lews Milne threading through some good passes but the killer touch was missing.

Oyenuga twice worked Jamie MacDonald in the Falkirk goal but too often good visiting moves broke down through a bad final pass.

At the other end Falkirk did not really pose Thomson many problems though he did have one good save from a Craig Sibbald effort.

The Cowden efforts got frantic in the closing stages but there was no goal and it emans one point from the last eight games.
