Alloa Athletic 2, Cowdenbeath 3.

SPFL Championship Attendance-643.

COWDEN stretched their unbeaten run in the Championship to three games with this win at Alloa on Saturday.

And it was a result which consigned the Wasps to the foot of the table as the Blue Brazil moved ahead of them and Livingston with the victory.

It was a game which had plenty for the fans of both sides to enjoy with good goals, close things and some not bad play on the astro surface.

For Cowdenbeath, they again played some fast flowing stuff linking defence and attack well and Kudus Oyenuga came close to his first senior hat-trick.

The Dundee United loan star’s pace gave Alloa loads of trouble and while he may of missed a couple of chances at Dumbarton two weeks ag,o there was no denying him his deserved brace.

Fellow striker, Sean Higgins, also was very dangerous as the Cowdenbeath midfield, with Chris Kane and Jon Robertson constantly probing the Wasps’ rearguard, and Callum Gallagher’s pace a major factor in the win.

At the back Kyle Miller and Iain Campbell were again in good form as wing-backs while the central defensive unit of Thomas O’Brien, Marcus Fraser and Darren Brownlie coped well with the Alloa attack force of Liam Buchanan and Greg Spence, and Robbie Thomson had another good game between the sticks.

It was the same Cowden line-up for the third game in a row and Gallagher came close in the opening minutes with a shot which was well held by Craig McDowall.

Alloa responded with Buchanan twice shooting, high and then wide, before Stephen Simmons tested Thomson who made an excellent save from the former Dunfermline man’s free-kick.

Cowden’s midfield was winning a lot of second phase balls and in 34 minutes they took the lead.

The home defence was slow to close down OYENUGA when he latched on to a slack Simmons clearance and his low shot swept low into the corner of the net.

Alloa responded with Simmons again bringing out a good save from Thomson but Higgins could have doubled the lead with a shot which went just wide.

Cowdenbeath started the second-half well and Higgins sent a header just wide before Oyenuga fired an effort in which could have brought a second goal.

But Alloa started to put together some good moves and in 58 minutes they drew level. Simmons set up former Blue Brazilian BUCHANAN and his left foot shot beat Thomson.

However, there was no case of the Blues feeling sorry for themselves for within 60 seconds they took the lead again.

Gallagher’s sharpness caught out the home defence and OYENUGA dispatched the ball low into the net.

The Wasps were struggling now and in 64 minutes it was 3-1. Campbell’s corners had been causing the hosts a lot of trouble and another delivery from the Lochgelly lad found GALLAGHER and his header gave McDowall no chance.

Cowden went in search of a fourth and Higgins and Kane both shot over but with 13 minutes to go the Wasps gave themselves a lifeline.

Eddie Ferns’ corner provided the chance for SPENCE and he got to the ball first to head home.

Cowden were in a situation which they failed to hold at Easter Road, but this time the defence coped superbly.

Kyle Benidictus went close for Alloa and then Michael Doyle forced a sound save from Thomson but there was no way back for the home side and Cowden collected their first away win.
