AFTER two good performances from his team, Cowden boss Jimmy Nicholl is very disappointed that there is no game this Saturday.

Four points from these matches has closed the gap between the bottom of the table Fifers and Alloa and Livingston, to two points but with Rangers having three players on international duty this weekend, the match scheduled for Central Park with ‘Gers, has been postponed.

While it would have been a difficult assignment for the Blue Brazil the manager would have much preferred to see action on Saturday.

He said, “I was very pleased with the way the team took the game to Dumbarton, it was the ideal way to build on the Queen of the South win.

“We caused them a lot of problems and with the amount of chances we created I have to look at it as two points droppedbut the lads deserve great credit for posing so many problems for a team that had been four games undefeated before the match.” He was again delighted with the defensive work of his side, “It was the first shut out and it was something we fully deserved. We defended excellently as a team with the boys at the back in dominating form and they got fine support from the midfield.

“And the thing was we were creating chances as well and had so many good efforts which worked their ‘keeper with the likes of Kyle Miller and Ian Campbell both getting forward to test their goalkeeper.

“They did not look like players who are bottom of the league and that was so pleasing and there was no case of the heads being down, they worked so hard and deserved to win it.” But now Cowden face an idle weekend with the Rangers game postponed until some time in November.

“After these two very good performances we would have wanted to keep playing but there is nothing you can do if your opponents have players involved on international duty,” he added, “But really the biggest problem is the lack of cash coming into the club through the postponement. We would have had a capacity crowd with all the hospitality trade a Saturday game would have brought.

“We have expected this to happen but it is still disappointing and just comes at the wrong time for us.

“The lads, despite being short of several regulars, have played well in the last two games and this enforced break will allow many of the injured guys to get fit.” The likes of John Armstrong, Nat Wedderburn, Dean Brett and Lewis Milne will be available for the match at Alloa on 18th October, but will they get back in the squad?

“I told the lads before the game on Saturday that it is up to them to hold onto the shirts and they played really well so it could be that some will have to wait to get back into the side,” the manager concluded.
