Jimmy Nicholl wouldn’t reveal their identities but planned to add the duo to his squad after twice blowing a lead against Falkirk on Saturday and ending up with a share of the spoils.

Although disappointed not to win, the boss aims to build on the positive performance against the highly-rated Bairns and hopes the loan strangers, thought to be a striker and midfielder, will help Cowden enjoy a “super August”.

He said, “We had to defend well in this game and were doing so but two little bits of slackness let them twice in to grab goals, although the finish for the first one was spectacular. But we could have stopped the ball getting to the scorer.

“We have the quality in the squad to stop these things happening and I am hopeful that we will have an even stronger unit by Saturday coming, and if not the Livi game, by the Alloa match.” Nicholl said the Bairns will be a top half side this season and was heartened that Cowdenbeath posed them plenty of problems and could have sneaked a win.

He said, “I thought we played well although we were twice ahead and were twice hauled back. It was a spirited show from the lads.

“Falkirk are a good side and were dangerous but we defended pretty well for the most part and also created some really good chances. It was a result I would have taken before the start but there were a couple of openings which could have given us our first win.” Nicholl is targeting a bumper crop of points in August from the next three league games this month - Livingston away on Saturday followed by home games at Central against Raith Rovers and Alloa Athletic.

“These three matches are against teams who will be around us this season and two of them will be at home so it gives as a chance to make this a good month for us.

“Clearly Livi, Raith and Alloa will be have a similar agenda but it is up to us to take the chance to make it a Super August.” Left-back Kenny Adamson, who played against Falkirk despite an achilles knock suffered against Clyde, came through the game well and there were no fresh knocks from Saturday’s game.

It leaves groin strain victim Sammy Stewart the only man out of action for the trip to Livi.
