COWDEN boss Jimmy Nicholl was much happier with the performance at Broadwood, but he wants an improvement on that for the visit of Falkirk on Saturday in the Championship opener.

He saw his team come back from being a goal down to Clyde in the League Cup first round tie and was delighted with the effort put in, but there were still a few problems which he needs to sort out.

He said this week, “The team worked really hard against a very spirited side who could play a bit.

“But we still made a few unforced errors that will be punished in the league and we have to get these out of our system.

“The first-half saw us have a couple of good chances but we also saw Clyde carve out openings and we had to defend well at times, and to lose a goal in time added on at the break was a real blow and asked questions for the second-half.” Goals from Lewis Milne and Kyle Miller completed a good fight-back and the manager wants his men to build on that against a Falkirk side who will be wanting to make a real impact on the Championship this season. They may not feature in the bookmakers’ top three line-up for the end of season shake-up but new Bairns boss Peter Houston will have other ideas. And to do that they will feel they have to win at places like Cowdenbeath and Alloa.

However, Mr Nicholl sees this home game as an opportunity to get the Cowden points tally moving.

“Falkirk will be difficult opponents for they will have hopes of putting pressure on the Rangers, Hibs and Hearts but we have our own agenda” The manager will look to have new strikers Dan Jurisic and Craig Sutherland in the squad for the game, to link up with Sean Higgins as Cowden seek the goals to eak out points.

“Jurisic gives us other options as he is a big strong guy who can finish but we got two goals on Saturday from the midfield and we have to look to get strikes from all over the park,” he concluded.

He may go with a 4-4-1-1 formation but the front end will be be the big question.

Definitely out is midfielder Sammy Stewart, with a groin problem, which could take several weeks to heal, while Kenny Adamson is nursing an achilles knock and he will be 50-50
