Cowden ‘A’ 2, Dundee ‘A’ 3.

A LATE come-back fell just short as the Cowden reserve side saw their unbeaten League Cup run come to an end at Central Park last Tuesday night, writes Andy Mullen.

The Dens Parkers stormed into a three goal lead with just 26 minutes on the clock. Thomas CARBERRY opened the scoring in 13 minutes when he slotted home a Lee Cameron cross from close range.

The visitors went further ahead with 22 minutes gone when CAMERON took advantage of a slip by Jon Robertson and ran in to to slot the ball past Thomas Flynn.

Worse was to follow four minutes later when Cammy KERR dispossessed Jack Wright on the edge of the box and went on to score a similar goal.

Soon after the Dees almost made it four but Steven Dorris sent his header from a Kerr free-kick wide of goal.

Cowden looked more bright in the second period and on the hour Jamie Stevenson sent a 30 yard free-kick just over the bar.

Soon after Ben Anthony (right) saw a shot blocked by keeper Dan Twardiz while at the other end Flynn did well to parry a Carberry shot.

Cowden eventually pulled a goal back with 12 minutes to go when David Gold headed the ball into the path of Craig JOHNSTON who fired home from six yards, A minute later Carberry had the ball in the home net but referee Williams had already whistled for offside.

Jordan Morton and Stevenson then both came close before Ben ANTHONY finally slotted home a second goal with a minute to go.
