Fisher joins up as Sons await Cowden
COWDENBEATH will be hoping the weather relents this Saturday to let them get back into action at Dumbarton.
Frost put paid to last weekend's Barrs Irn Bru Second Division game with Albion Rovers and only two matches in the division went on.
It meant that it was as you were at the top of the table with Cowden still five points clear of Arbroath.
But with centre-back Joe Mbu joining player/boss Colin Cameron on the sidelines for the Rovers fixture due to a groin strain and skipper Jon Robertson in the doubtful category maybe it was a bonus for the Blues that the match was off.
The game was eventually postponed at 12.10pm on Saturday. The pitch had covers on part of it and these did their job but the other areas suffered badly as temperatures dropped to minus five and while the referee gave it every chance to recover he made his decision to postpone the fixture at the back of mid-day.
So now Cowden take on Dumbarton, at The Rock, this Saturday, a place where the Fifers won by four goals in the early Autumn.
Manager Cameron will be out for a month with his medial ligament injury and he has moved quickly to bring in a replacement. He is 19 year-old Gary Fisher, from Kilmarnock (pictured right).
The manager watched the midfielder in a bounce match last midweek and moved swiftly to sign him on a month to month basis. He said, "I had a word with Jimmy Nicholl and he recommended Gary so I went down and had a look at him and he looks a very competitive player who will add plenty to our midfield resources.
"I will be out of action for several weeks but with Gary coming in it means we have cover in the central area and wide."
Dumbarton have been picking up points regularly this season and are very much looking for a play-off spot. So despite their big win through there earlier in the season there will be no complacency in the Cowden ranks.
With the manager out it is likely that Craig Winter will be given first chance to replace him in the central midfield area and with the rest last weekend both Mbu and Robertson should be fit for the trip west. Kenny Adamson has also recovered from his hamstring knock.
Fisher will be included in the squad but may well be on the bench with Scott Linton taking the advanced midfield role if Mark Ramsay is still out.
