COWDENBEATH will have old rivals East Fife as first-footers on Monday as they bid to maintain their hard won lead at the top of the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division.

With the high winds forcing the abandonment of Arbroath's home game with Stirling Albion on Saturday, Cowdenbeath start 2012 three points clear of the Gayfielders, albeit with a game more played.

East Fife are tucked in with the teams chasing the leading duo and will have a play-off place very much on their agenda and this will give the holiday derby a really sharp edge to it.

Having beaten third top Stenhousemuir on their own patch on Monday the Blue Brazil will be confident of further strengthening their position as they reach the half way stage of their programme.

Player/boss Colin Cameron was delighted with the way the side went about their business at gusty Ochilview Park and he is eagerly looking forward to the East Fife derby.

He said, "It was difficult conditions to play in but it was the same for both sides. I felt it was important that we played with the wind behind us in the first-half as I thought we would play better into the wind in the second period.

"Although there wasn't much football played in the first-half I thought we were the better side and deserved our lead through Greg's goal. Our second goal was fully deserved. Although Stenny threatened with a few free kicks and corners into the box, we created the better chances with their keeper pulling off a few good saves".

He added, "I was delighted with the final result which sees us end the year three points clear of Arbroath after their game was abandoned.

"The players can take great credit for our current position and hopefully the good result against one of our nearest challengers will give them a big boost ahead of the derby".

Looking ahead to the match with the Methilmen, he went on, "The two games so far have been very good competitive fixtures with us playing particularly well at New Bayview. They will come to Central Park looking to knock us off our perch and we will have to be ready for the challenge.

"The attitude at Stenny was spot-on and we will need to produce that same approach this coming Monday."

Left-back Kenny Adamson is eligible for the derby game after being suspended against Stenny. Thomas O'Brien was also missing at Ochilview after breaking a bone in his foot while training last weekend and it could keep him out for several weeks.
