It was confirmed on Monday that Danny Lennon had been appointed as the team manager at St Mirren Football Club after a compensation package was formally agreed with Cowdenbeath.
The 40-year-old Lennon managed Cowden to back to back promotions over the last two seasons.
St Mirren Football Club held a press conference on Tuesday when the new manager was introduced to the media.
It leaves the Fifers now facing having to replace the man who guided them to the First Division only days before the fixtures for next season will be published.
The Cowden board issued the following statement after the manager was attracted to Paisley and ther SPL.
It said, "Cowdenbeath Football Club do not wish to stand in the way of Danny Lennon.
"We are not surprised by the interest in Danny after the season we have had.
"The Club has a track record of developing and investing in up and coming young managers - including Craig Levein and Mixu Paatelainen in the recent past - and, in our opinion, Danny is one of the best young managers in Scotland at this current time. His achievements in his time at Central Park are second to none".
Mr Lennon only arrived back in Scotland from holiday on Thursday but within a matter of hours Saints, who parted company with Gus McPherson at the end of the season, were in touch to express their interest.
Cowdenbeath gave permission to Saints to speak with the manager and he was interviewed on Friday.
He impressed the Saints officials and over the weekend a compensation package for the Cowden manager of two seasons was agreed His contract was due to expire in September
Mr Lennon told the Times, "It is an opportunity I simpy could not turn down
"I have had a great four years at Central Park culminating in last season's promotion and.I have met some tremendous people along the way. And I would like to personally thank the fans for their outstanding support especially last season".
He added, "I wish the club well next season in the First Division and I will be looking out for the results."
Mr Lennon arrived at Central Park as assistant to Brian Welsh in 2006 and when the former Dundee United defender left the club in the summer of 2008 was asked to take over and in two seasons he took Cowden from Division Three to the First Division.
Who takes over at Central Park will be a major question.
Time is short for the Barrs Irn Bru first Division fixtures will be out within a fortnight so the moves for a replacement will have to be made within the next few days.
