SATURDAY'S defeat at Peterhead has left Cowdenbeath's chances of winning the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division title that little bit slimmer than before kick-off.
But a late Brechin City goal at Recreation Park saw leaders Alloa Athletic also lose so Cowden are still six points adrift with a game in hand.
Cowden cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to keep the pressure on the Wasps right to the bitter end.
The Blue Brazil must look to beat Arbroath at Gayfield this Saturday and then beat Brechin twice within the space of a few days and then finish the campaign off with wins over Stirling Albion at Central Park and Alloa at the Recs on the last day of the season.
That could just be enough to give the Fifers the title but clearly there is very little room for slip-ups.
Manager Danny Lennon was disappointed to lose by a single goal at Peterhead, a result which brought the Blue Toon closer to the play-offs region of the table.
He said, "It was a very close game with very little between the sides but again we failed to hit the target with some of the good chances that we created.
"We had some really good spells of possession but we just could not get a goal At the end of the day you do not get anything for the amount of passes you make it is all about goals. We did not play that well in the first-half but after the break we really dominated possession and carved out some excellent chances but just could not get the ball in the net.
"With Alloa losing it was an especially disappointing day for us." Arbroath still harbour hopes of avoiding the relegation play-offs so they will be a really committed unit this weekend. Added Mr Lennon, "All season I have maintained the point that there are no easy games in this division and clearly Arbroath will be determined opponents.
"The fact is that we have to win the game and our strategy will be completely with that in mind
"Basically nothing has changed in that the situastion with Alloa is exactly the same as before the kick-off on Saturday and our aim has to be to win our last five games".
