COWDENBEATH boss Danny Lennon is maintaining his maxim of taking each of Cowden's last six games as a separate entity as the season enters its closing phase.
The Blue Brazil are in clear second top spot in the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division and are virtually guaranteed a promotion play-off spot.
But no one at Central Park is giving up on trying to finish in top position in the division although Alloa lead by six points with a game more played.
The manager does not think any further than the next game and he is now concentrating on this Saturday's trip to Peterhead. The boss was very pleased with his team's performance against Stenhousemuir and felt that his lads were well worth the three points. He said, "We controlled play for long spells in the game but we knew that Stenhousemuir would defend well as they battle to keep clear of the relegation play-offs. It meant that our wide play was crucial to getting a result and while our deliveries were not the best in the first period we started to pose them real problems in the second-half.
"Jon Robertson started to send over some good balls from the right hand side and it was a cracking goal that Gareth Wardlaw scored from one of them. We defended well when we had to and it was at a crucial stage when we got the goal which turned out to be the winner."
The manager was also delighted to see Danny Mackay get back on a first team park after being out for almost a year with a ligament injury.
Striker Wardlaw was a happy man to grab the winner. He told the Times, "The important thing was that we got the three points from the match. Stenny were defending well but I just saw Jon's cross curling into the box and managed to get in a good header which flew into the net. Now we have to concentrate on winning our last six games to keep the pressure on at the top of the table."
Peterhead are in the middle of a good run at the moment so it will be no easy task to return south with the three points this weekend.
Said Mr Lennon, "We will be trying hard to play our normal brand of football at Peterhead but we know it will be a tough game."
Dene Droudge and Mark Baxter are still having treatment on knee and hamstring injuries respectively and may struggle to be involved this weekend, but Scott Linton has a better chance of being able to take part.
