COWDENBEATH will be in derby action this weekend as the weather at last looks like it is going to be a little more football friendly.
The Fifers were to begin their 'catch-up' programme on Tuesday with their home match against Arbroath but with last Saturday's game against Brechin City added to their postponed list they are going to face a hectic spell to get their league programme completed.
And when frost put the Arbroath game off on Tuesday it kept the frustration growing.
The Brechin game at Glebe Park was cancelled on Friday afternoon as the wintry weather of Wednesday and Thursday took over.
Heavy snow hit Angus and with the pitch already frostbound there was no chance that the fixture would survive. Sensibly the decision was taken to postpone the game on Friday and add the game to the to-play list.
Manager Danny Lennon was not surprised with the situation. He had hoped to play Forfar Athletic in a friendly at Station Park last Tuesday but the freezing weather had put paid to that plan.
He said, "The pitches have taken a real hammering from the weather and it was no real surprise that the Brechin game was off. With a bit of luck the weather will maybe now become a bit kinder and give us the chance of getting into our catch-up programme."
Cowden will now play Alloa Athletic at Central Park in one of the postponed games on Tuesday week (16th March) but first they will have to take on old rivals East Fife this Saturday at Central Park in the last derby of the season.
The Methilmen have had a bit of an up and down season and are third bottom on 26 points, 10 behind Cowden.
So they still have a bit of work to do to cement their position in the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division and they will come to Cowdenbeath determined to leave Central Park with something from the game. Added Mr Lennon, "No derby fixture is an easy game and we will find East Fife determined opponents this weekend".
The lack of action leaves the Fifers with an almost clear injury list and Kenny Adamson will still be suspended afterTuesday's postponement so Cowden will have a full squad from which to choose apart from midfielder Danny MacKay who is still working his way back to maximum match fitness.
