Manager Danny Lennon hopes for better luck with the weather at Brechin
THE freeze returned last weekend to further frustrate Cowdenbeath's hopes of getting back into the race for the Barrs Irn Bru Second Division title.
There were feelings that an inspection could be delayed until nearer kick-off time on Saturday but that did not happen.
On Friday Cowden officials had found that while the pitch was pretty hard at 10am, by the back of 1pm it became playable under the strong sun.
Keen to get a game Alloa had agreed to leave the final inspection to 1.30pm but the referee turned up at Central Park on Saturday at around 11am and found the pitch frozen in places and put the fixture off.
It means that Cowdenbeath have four home games to catch up on and while the Wasps fixture has yet to have a date settled for it, three other games have been arranged for a busy March.
On Tuesday (2nd March) the Fifers will meet Arbroath at Central Park with a 7.45pm start, then on Tuesday 23rd they entertain Clyde, again at 7.45pm; and on Tuesday 30th it is Stirling Albion at 7.45pm.
Said manager Danny Lennon, "It is all adding up to a packed month of activity and it will probably be a period which will decide how the season is going to go. There will be a whole package of key games including fixtures against Alloa and Stirling Albion twice within the space of a few days.
"We faced something similar last season and it had a big effect on the campaign. With the games coming so thick and fast it all depends on how many injuries and suspensions you can avoid, but every club is in the same boat."
Cowden will be hoping this Saturday's important game at Brechin will be on. City are right up there with Cowden, in fourth place, so it is another important game. Added Mr Lennon, "Yet another big match and we will have to be at our best to come back with a result. Brechin have been stringing together some good results but on our day we are capable of winning against anyone in the division."
Cowden will be without suspended Kenny Adamson for this Saturday but injured utility man Scott McBride should be fit and ready to play his part at Glebe Park. Meanwhile young midfielder Danny MacKay got some useful match practice in last midweek and may well be able to feature in the run-in after recovering from his serious knee injury. Striker John Dempster is fully fit and ready to boost the Cowden goal threat.
